The smart phone will run on a Linux based operating system and expected to hit the markets on December 28, on the occasion of birth anniversary of Reliance founder Dhiru Bhai Ambani.
“Our target is to bring a smartphone under Rs 1,000. Buyers will get free internet browsing for 12 months with this phone,” said, Sangeer Singh Tuli, CEO Datawind.
“We are focusing on network serices, apps and content for better user experience,” Tuli added.
The handset will have all the basic smartphone features, and will allow users to access Facebook, WhatsApp, Browsing and Email services.
Considering how Indian smartphone segment is shaping up, potential market for this handset is huge as it becomes affordable to literally everyone.
Currenty, several domestic smartphone manufacturers are contributing to the increasing trend of smartphone usage by offering high end phones at lower price. This ultra-cheap smartphone with free internet service for 12 months can create huge demands in Indian markets.
